In 1885, El Rincon del Diablo was sold to a group of Los Angeles investors, that eventually incorporated into the Escondido Land and Town Company. In 1888, Escondido was incorporated as a city.
Lake Wolford was established after the Bear Valley Reservoir was built in 1895. Bear Valley Reservoir’s name was changed in 1924, to Lake Wolford Dam.
