Mayberry created the Lake Hemet Water Co. and the Lake Hemet Land Co. and established plots for a town. In 1893, they named the town Hemet. From 1891 to 1895, the Lake Hemet Water Co., also built the great Hemet Dam, delivering a dependable water source to the San Jacinto Valley which included Hemet. Although, Hemet was founded in 1887 it was not incorporated as a city until 1910.
Since 1923, the outdoor Ramona pageant has continuously been performed at the Ramona amphitheater in Hemet. In 2023, the Ramona Pageant will celebrate 100 years of continuous annual performances.
